The firmware in this directory is for older 35670A units without the new dislay. New units with serial numbers with the "MY" prefix require different firmware. 35670A Firmware Update Utility Instructions ------------------------------------------------- This file describes the steps required to produce a set of floppy disks on a personal computer (PC) that can be used to update the firmware in the HP 35670A or Agilent 35670A Dynamic Signal Analyzer. NOTE: The software tools used in this process will only work on computers running DOS 3.1 through Windows 98SE. Requirements: ------------- 1. A PC with a 3.5" floppy drive that is compatible with high density (1.44 MByte) disks and running DOS. 2. Two (2) 3.5" high density (1.44 MByte) DOS formatted disks. 3. The archive file that contains the new instrument firmware and tools required to produce the update disks. Instructions: ------------- 1. Make a temporary directory and place the self extracing archive file into the directory. The archive file name is in the format AXXXX.EXE, where XXXX is the revision number. For example, revision A.00.30 is stored in the file A0030.EXE). 2. "Execute" the self extracting archive program. For example: > A0030 The self extracting archive contains the following files that should now be present in your current directory : File Comments ------------- -------------------------------------------- HP35670A.* Instrument firmware update files MAKEDISK.BAT DOS batch file to produce update disks README.TXT Usage instructions (this file) LIF.EXE LIF file system utility There may be other files with additional information. 4. Run the MAKEDISK.BAT batch file specifying the floppy drive for your 3.5" drive as a parameter. For example : > MAKEDISK A: Place the first formatted disk in the drive and press return. The batch file will prompt for subsequent disks as needed until the process is complete. i Label each disk in the order in which it was produced. This is necessary since the analyzer will require this same order during the update process. The disks produced are now ready to update the firmware in the instrument. Please follow the instrument's firmware update instructions to complete this task. Note: The MAKEDISK.BAT batch file will convert the DOS formatted disks into HP's Logical Interface Format (LIF) and then copy the appropriate firmware update files to the disks. This will render the disks unreadable by DOS (e.g. DIR), but you can view the disk contents with the LIF utility provided in the archive. For example: > LIF LS A: /L
